I have this issue going on right now with my boyfriend and his 14 year old son. My boyfriend wants me to play housewife and mommma but he won't back me up and make his son listen to me when I tell him to do something,then when he doesn't I punish him and dad always lets him off of the punishment.Makes me feel like I don't matter around here unless they want food or a ride or the house cleaned or my boyfriend wants some type of sex from me.These are the only time I get paid attention to.

I agree with Mi_Remedio, it depends on when the partner came into the life of the child

It depends on when the BF or GF came into the life of the child. If the child was an infant at the start of the relationship, there should be more of a partnership in raising that child.
It's tougher as the child is older and is being introduced to a new partner, worst if the child is being introduced to a new GF/BF frequently.

What you mean boyfriend or girlfriend? Ideally, if there are kids, there supposed to be parents - married one?
And it depends, how old is "the other side"? Is he disciplining for a reason, or just of his/her wish?
