Who Should Win The MVP In The NBA This Year? (clic...

By Mike_OrkmanProductions Feb 11, 2011 5:23pm

Arguing about the NBA’s MVP every year is a very tedious task. Everyone has their own opinion on who should win, and everyone has their own definition of what the MVP really stands for. Does someone win the MVP because they are the best player in the league? Should someone win because they have done the most with the lack of talent in comparison with other teams? Is it a popularity contest? Is it all the above?

Granted, there are going to be a LOT of people clamoring for Lebron James this year; and if that does happen, he will be only the third person in the history of the NBA who have won MVP 3 years in a row (maybe you heard of the other 2 guys, they went along the names of Bill Russell and Larry Bird). I don’t dispute how talented he is, not for a second, but seriously, the guy has Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh behind him; so its kind of easy to get the crazy numbers he has this year. He is Currently averaging 25 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds a game.

Like some people, you could make an argument for Amare Stoudemire. The Knicks for the last few years have been in shambles to say the least, and Amare has clicked with them and has well exceeded expectations so far. They are not exactly a great team still, but at least I can actually watch the Knicks without wanting to gouge my eyes out because of how bad they are. His defense has slightly improved and has shown he can be a leader. He currently is averaging 26 points, 8 rebounds per game and also leads the NBA in 4th quarter points

Here is my official nomination for MVP: Derrick Rose. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. Despite having an absolute hack for a coach in his first 2 seasons (Thanks for nothing Vinny Del Negro), Derrick has gotten better each year in every aspect of the game possible, and has even taken his game 1 step further under new coach Tom Thibodeau. Rose is averaging 24 points per game, 8 assists,1 steal, and is shooting almost 40% from 3 point land this year. He is even getting the “MVP!” chants both at home AND on the road.

Although he has an above average supporting cast in Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah, the Bulls haven’t had all their pieces together for half the season. Derrick has not only stepped up his defense, but his 3 point shot has greatly improved as well. Something that is vastly underrated in the NBA today is passing. I know it sounds silly, because being paid as much as you are at this level, not everyone can be a good passer either. Derrick looks like he can contort his body any way he chooses in mid air to dish out a pass if he is getting mugged inside, and that’s only if he can't power through 3 guys at a time. Not only do I believe that Derrick Rose should be the NBA’s MVP this year, I think he is the future of the league. In the words of ex-player and current Bulls commentator Stacey King, “Did You Not Get The Memo?”
