Jets and Bears would have been the greatest Superbowl…now its Rapistberger and the cheese heads. The Cheesy Rape Burger.
--Jeremy Piven
Let me open by saying I never would have fathomed opening a blog post with something Jeremy Piven said but that quote was just to good to pass up. Jets and Bears would have been epic, but that’s not why your reading. That is not why I am writing. I’m writing to preview the Superbowl.
All joking aside, this will be a good game. The Packers and The Steelers have good offenses that can put up big numbers, but I think the real story on how the game is going to be decided will be through good old fashioned Defense. Maybe I am a sucker for sports cliché’s, but I really do believe defense’s win championships. Here are a few players who I think have the potential to change Sunday’s game with a single play.
For the packers I can’t help but to think of Clay Matthews and Charles Woodson. Matthews, from the neck up looks like an under evolved Fabio, while the rest of him looks like the incredible hulk. Not that I would say that to his face, the guy has 13.5 sacks on the year with 2 forced fumbles and an interception. Woodson, has earned every bit of his contract, achieving more in his short time with the packers compared to his 8 year stint with the raiders (then again, The Raiders has been a place where good talent dies, regardless of age.) He has 92 total tackles, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions and 5 forced fumbles.
For the Steelers there is James Harrison and Troy Palamalu. Harrison being the poster boy for helmet to helmet collisions in the NFL today, has 10.5 sacks, 6 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions. Not bad for a guy who came into the league undrafted. Palamalu, the poster boy for hair commercials, has a sack, 63 total tackles and 7 interceptions. Although I disagree with him being named the defensive player of the year, he still had a great year and is one of the best in the entire league at his position of Safety.
Look for a lot of big hit’s and penalty flags. This is going to be a fun game, and a close one at that. Last time I checked, The Packers were favored by 3 points. I understand Vegas odds will always favor someone, but considering that a big chunk of this Steelers team has already been here, I am going to have to go with the experience and favor Pittsburgh to win by a touchdown or less. Now if I am right about this, I am warning everyone now, sports analysts and media members are going to start the “Ben Rothlisberger is a changed man just because he won the Superbowl” bit. I am not saying I agree with it, I am just preparing you for the next big dumb media storm about to hit. Enjoy!
